IACUC Pain Category

The IACUC Pain Category maintenance document is used to add or modify a list of pain categories. Implementing institutions maintain a list of pain categories which may or may not be the standard USDA pain categories

This data serves as reference information that is made available for display and selection in the Pain Category field within the Species/Group page and the Procedure page of the IACUC protocol.

Edit IACUC Pain Category

The Edit action allowed on value (such as Pain Category=A) within the Pain Category maintenance document allows you to maintain and modify the data associated with Pain Category=A.

Field

Description

Pain Category Code

Required.  Enter a numeric value that uniquely identifies the IACUC Pain Category table record in the system.  Click within the text box to relocate the cursor to the field, and then type (or paste from virtual clipboard) to enter the desired value in the box as necessary.

Pain Category

Required.  Enter the full textual name of the Pain Category as it is commonly referred to (see examples below).  Click within the text box (or press the tab  key from a previous field) to relocate the cursor to the field, and then type (or paste from virtual clipboard) to enter text in the box as necessary to provide the appropriate information. 

Pain Level

Required.  Enter a numeric value for the Pain Level.  Click within the text box (or press the tab  key from a previous field) to relocate the cursor to the field, and then type (or paste from virtual clipboard) to enter the desired value in the box as necessary to provide the appropriate information. 

Active

Required. Check the box to make the Pain Category active and available for selection within the Pain Category field within Species/Groups and Procedure pages. Uncheck the box if you wish to inactivate Pain Category and prevent its selection within the IACUC protocol.
